What are the normal sounds that a locker in the rear of a 86 zook should be making?  Also what are the normal sounds that should come from a regeared T-case?

Hell, I ain't never heard a locker make a "normal" sound. Mine make about every other kinda sound, though.
Mine are quiet going straight.
"click, click, click" and sumtimes "click, click, pop" on turns.
And the occasional "Bang!" most of the way through a hard turn on pavement.
I got one that's quieter, and one that's noisier. A lot depends on the wear inside the diff.

I got a GRS-II tcase and it's pretty quiet, just a mild hum. I've heard other people complain about gear whine, tho.

Not too much info, but it's what I got.

Yep.  I have had the same experience with ones I have ran.  The one I had in an 89 sidekick I use to have, would just click, click, click....it never did the loud bang!...it could have been because it was one that came with the replacement side gears (couplers).  Now the one in my samurai is a completely different animal, it sometimes clicks, it sometimes does the loud bang!...it is the type where you reuse the stock sidegears.....don't know if that makes the difference, or if it is because they supposedly redesigned them slightly between the time when I had the sidekick and my now current samurai.

I've got Lock-Rites front and rear, and I love them. Love  The clicks and pops are no big deal.  They're really rather predictable.  When you turn, the inside wheel is the drive.  It wiggles a littles when you change gears, and there's 1/4 to 1/2 a turn play.  I can't imagine wheeling without them, unless I want to imagine getting stuck.

Amen, what he said.

However on a "Trailer Queen", non-daily driver, I prefer to save a little money and Fozzy lock or spool the rear and just use a locker in the front. YMMV.

Out here in nowheresville, I have to travel quite a way to get to good places to wheel.  I can't afford a tow-rig & trailer.  Besides, I'd have to go back the way I came.  On the road, the locker saves a lot of tire wear as compared to a spool, and in the long run will save you money.

i have used lockrights in 2 eb's and 1 yeep.

always worked flawlessly in all of em.

i put in a spool in my 9"  with the lockrite 44   and i decided thats the combo i will use as long as  i could.

currently i am in need of a lockrite for my 85 yota front for 5.29's  but my spool and similar gears are already to go (sorta).

so to sum up all this physcobable /

Lockrite good (sometimes noisy)

I got groans, moans, pops, bangs, whines in my rig no problem.
Honestly though my 4.9:1 is no louder than stock unless in low range.
I wouldn't worry about it unless you drop the fluid and it's metallic.

Yeah, was that many moons ago when you had a v6 in your Zuk?  Were those in stock axles?

BTW a "Miller Locker" is a misnomer pseudonym that refers to a "welded" dif.
