What to use to replace door seals?
«

Well, this weekend I did it. I stripped my zuk and repainted it. I've got everything back on except for the rubber door seals. The seals had those plastic little snaps that held the seal to the door and I can't find them anywhere. Anyway, is there anyway I could bypass having to use the plastic snaps? Can I use some sort of glue to put the door seals back on?

you are right to wait till you get the right thing.
they do make an adhesive but it has to be temp rated and very flexible.

I know the feeling. I broke a bunch of those snaps. Most of mine broke with one ridge left, and I smacked then in with a flat punch and a small hammer. I tried to keep it kind of even on the longer ones, like every other hole, and used them where the seal made a turn. But if you figure out what to use, let us know.
Oh and....
we want to see it.

A little reasoning behind why I did it. The original blue paint was pealing in several places, the driver's door was not the same color of blue, and the previous owner had used black spray paint to try and cover some of the pealing up. It looked like total crap!
It's by no means a professional paint job but what do you expect for only $95 using Rust-Oleum from Wal-Mart?? It took me four ass breaking days of labor to strip it, prime it and then paint it and that's working on it after my regular 8-5 job! I started on thursday at about 6:00pm and worked until midnight. I did the same thing friday. I spent all day saturday and until about 5:00pm on sunday to finish it. It took 5 cans of chemical stripper, 7 cans of primer and 10 cans of Rust-Oleum gloss enamel to get it done. I didn't like the blue so I changed the color to white.
I never want to do it again but it looks a LOT better than it did before. I'll probably get a professional paint job on it eventually, but for now, it's just a $1500 toy and I couldn't get myself to spend that kind of money on paint!
I'll get some pics tonight, you'll be surprised at how good it looks...

Here's some pics as promised.
Pictures of the original paint. You can see where the paint is coming off the hood and the fenders and how faded it is.
Pictures right after I got it stripped. The kids thought it looked cool this way
Pictures right after it was primed:
Pictures of the new paint. The fender flares and rocker panels will also be black, I just haven't done them yet. Try to picture them black as well. It will look sharp when I get them painted.
That's it! My $95 Rust-Oleum Wal-Mart paint job

OMG! You sure worked your tail off on this! That's the best rattle-can paint job that I've seen yet!

Hey thanks! I did work my tail off, but I think the end result was worth it. I'm pretty happy with it.
I'm not quite finished yet. I'm going to paint the fender flares, the rocker panels, the targa caps, and the rear bumper. There's just too much white on the sides. I think offsetting it with the black flares and rocker panels will make it look pretty cool.
I'll post more pics when I get it completely done, probably this weekend.

I know I'm late but I'm just getting through the posts.
1. That looks nice with the white
2. 3M makes a good flexible weatherstrip adhesive
3. The adhesive and the pins can be found at a body shop supplier, if they are the T shaped pins several car makers used those
