10-4 I did ask didn't I. It is a 2WD and I was told to use the Sammi trans. I personally don't care or do I know what is better. can the A/C swap be done? donor is a 95 Tracker  4door, 2wd, auto w/overdrive, A/C, thanks for the info SKYHiranger....  are you in KC

Oh, it is 2wd then....I guess you won't be swapping a tcase in then (as mentioned in the subject line) Wink
You can use the samurai tranny behind the 16V.  They make adapters for it, or you can make your own.  Basically the adapters are for the lower engine to tranny bolt holes....since the holes on the 16V are spaced farther out than the holes in the samurai tranny.  The upper engine and tranny holes line up.
For the intermediate shaft....it will need to be shortened, but as I mentioned, the slip yoke is the same size/spline as the 2wd tranny output shaft.
The AC swap can be done....I don't know every little detail of it, but what I mentioned earlier is an overview of what needs to be done.
I am in the KC "area".

My added comments:

If you have 3.73s in your difs, grab the front Ring and pinion out of the Sidekick then find a second matching front R&P.  I believe that they are 4.625s

So much to remember...

It will have 5.125 gears.  But, as Ack mentioned, you can still swap them over to a samurai.  You need 2 front trackick thirds/gearsets....if so desired, you can bolt one trackick front third into the front of your samurai, without any mods at all...even the driveshaft bolt pattern is correct for the trackick pinion flange, since you have a '91..(the downfall of this is that it will be in the trackick stock aluminum housing...so it will be more prone to rock damage), the other front trackick third will either need to have the sidegears swapped out for the samurai ones or you can take the trackick ring and pinion and swap over to the samurai carrier and thirdmember housing (more involved, but it is a stronger setup than using an aluminum third).
I have another 5.125 front third, if you are interested or are in need of one.

Just to clarify the Tracker is 2wd NOT 4 so I don't have any front goodies.  and I plan on using my Yota axles.  I will run 16v and the Auto. I just  the right Transfercase setup.

there is a good thread with pics at Zuwharrie.com on the Samurai engine/auto transmission swap.

To easily find it (and a bunch of other useful info) do a search  for automatic at Ack's FAQ. The link is in my signature.
