I guess Scott must be an idiot.....here is what he said in the article.....

"You're desperate for places to go," said Scott Gillispie, who nonetheless has made a business of it at Off-Road Motorsports Inc. "You've got people driving through construction sites because it has pits. There's nothing in Kansas."

Nothing in Kansas?......last time I checked KSRocks and Tuttle Creek was in Kansas.  Granted, they aren't IN Wichita....but they aren't that far away either.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be a good idea......hell, there can never be too many places to wheel (and especially ones right in your back yard).
I guess my point is, he should have picked his words better......he could have said something like...."there is nothing within X hours of wichita" not "there's nothing in Kansas."  His statement is obviously untrue, and makes him look like an idiot, IMO.
I don't think that Disney, KSRocks, or Tuttle is much farther for Wichita guys as it is for some of us KC guys, is it?

The first rule of communication is to consider your audience.
WE were not his audience.  His audience was the Wichita City Council, who he had to convince of the need.  It's likely they don't know shit about other 4x4 resources, so he did not look like an idiot to them.  No doubt he conveniently overlooked the other parks as not to give the Wichita City Council any excuses to reject the idea.

When one generalizes like that and there is someone who has done research or other information sources to the contrary he runs the risk of losing credability with the council.  Personally I can't imagine anything around Wichita that would be more than a mudpit or sandpit.     Mel

That's funny, because I actually thought the exact same thing, that he is trying to make it look like there is a HUGE need for an off-road park in Wichita......and by saying "nothing in Kansas", sounds like there is a lot more need than saying "we have to drive 2 or 3 hours to get to a place to 4 wheel".

When one generalizes like that and there is someone who has done research or other information sources to the contrary he runs the risk of losing credability with the council.   Mel

I also thought of that too, in "response" to what Phoenix pointed out above.  I would hope anyone that is on the city council, would do their research and not rely strictly on the statement made by a person that would obviously have an interest in a local off-road park......since he runs a 4x4 shop, an off-road park should bring him in more business (builds, repairs, parts purchases, etc.)

Sad but true...  However, there's a lot of Heeps out there that could not climb over a kidney stone on a bet.  They need someplace to play too.
