Hi everyone,

i am new to the forum and i browse the site looking for info in this so if there is an existing topic please let me know or move the topic to where it should be more suitable...

I have a 91 samurai 4x2 5 gear tranny... i want to turn it into a 4x4... but i am not sure exactly what parts to buy or what to do for this.... i love my ride i actually havent ever gotten stuck in the mud.. which makes me think of the power i could get with 4x4!!!!!

if someone needs more info about the samurai let me know...

i have heard that its pretty easy and the 4x4 conversion is very good...

This is off the top of my head. Front 4X4 axle (with drag link and tie rod) 4X4 transfer case, front drive shaft.

Required......
Complete front axle from hub to hub.  The drag link and tie-rod is the same between the 2wd and 4wd.  But if you get a front axle assembly it will probably come with the drag link and tie-rod.
4wd transfer case with shifter.  The transfer case arms are the same between the 2wd "transfer case" and the 4wd transfer case.
Front driveshaft.

Optional......
4wd samurai instrument cluster (only if you want a "4WD" light on the dash).

You will want to make sure you get a transfer case, driveshaft and a front axle that has the same size flanges on them.  From 86-88 samurais came with small bolt pattern flanges and driveshafts.  From 88.5-95 samurais came with large bolt pattern flanges and driveshafts.  Since you say yours is a 91, it should have the large pattern.
There are some work arounds if you get a mix of parts.....
the flanges on the tcases will all interchange.
the larger flanges can be redrilled for the small bolt pattern driveshafts.
tracker/sidekick pinion flanges will fit on samurai pinions.
large and small pattern driveshafts can be mixed and matched (meaning you can take a large pattern and a small pattern driveshaft and pull them apart and mix and match ends so you have a large pattern on one end and a samll pattern on the other end).
samurai and trackick driveshafts all use the same ujoints, so you can take an pinion flange end off of a trackick driveshaft and put on a samurai driveshaft to make it a large pattern driveshaft.
