It was nice to see some Zuks at this years Kansas Rocks Halloween Run.  Smutz got to show off his great LJ build, and yjzuk impressed me with his care and courage in attacking the difficult trails and the rock garden.  I didn't take many pictures, I be wheeling, although crippled with a broken front locker.

its always a good run when you beat it all day and nothing breaks  . especially when its your first time out with a new motor and a new auto trans. Hey phoenix did you send me the vids you took?

I had fun.  First time out with 33" tires.....I like them.  Now just have to decide whether to go with 12.50s  or 10.50s.
Wished there would have been more zuks that showed up and some would have stayed until Sunday.....maybe next time.

I struggled with this choice too.  12.50 would be great in the mud if you've got enough power to spin them.  However, they will make your Zuk 4 inches wider than the 10.50.  One of the things that I like about the Zuk is how it fits in narrow places.

I have the gearing to spin them (77:1 right now and probably putting 4:1s in the samurai tcase at some point.....so around 142:1 eventually).
I have noticed they do make the samurai a little wider.....but only around 2" (each tire is 2" wider than my 31x10.50s, but only 1" is to the "outside").
The biggest issue is that there isn't a lot of tire choices in the 33x10.50 size.  And I would like to find some used ones, since I will never wear out new tires, because my samurai only gets used off-road.

My 1.3 is old and tired.  Since I don't use low gears in the mud, the gearing was not an issue for me.  I could use low gears to spin the tires, but not fast enough to unload the mud.

That's true if you use the same wheels, but with 10.50s I could get away with a 3" backspacing, with 12.50s I'd have to use 2".

Yeah, I plan on keeping the same wheels.  The ones I have are around 3.75"-4" backspacing (the tires do rub the springs a little, but not enough to bother me).

I don't play in the mud, if I can help it, so I don't really need to spin the tires fast.  And if I ever do, since I have the dual tcases, I have enough gearing options I should be able to spin them fast enough.

I've been really paranoid about this since I read an account from someone who broke an axle when his knobby tire hung up on a spring. 

Yeah, mud is evil.     You never know what lurks below.  I need to be able to drive home.  I like to see out my windows.  It splashes through the holes in the floor, and gets into my fusebox.   And, I hate to have dried mud falling in my face when I'm working underneath my Zuk.
