rocktoberfest was awesome, had a lot of fun, first day we took a group out into the forest and took a trail that was still open and it was so mild it felt like we could have been passed by a civic. senic but not much for wheeling, there was a fun shale pit at the end the washes in them were deep enough that if you cut across them I drug the wench in the front and the tow hook in the back, that was fun. so we did some back road drifting back to camp and played around.
on saturday we were lining up to take a group and we decided that we would step it up a little. little did I know this was trouble. so we took off with about 11 rigs total 3 staff rigs, and the rest people who had never left the pavement, (my assumption as they all claimed that where ever that little sami could go they could follow.) it took 7 hours to clear a 20 mile course, had a Heep with a blown engine to tow out, had more rigs fall in ended up with about 16 rigs in all in our group. the trail was kinda ruff, and I ran the creek bed for a while scraping stuff the whole way so the Heeps behind me (two of them, one knew what he was doing the other was new but patient and did well) the rest of the group ran the trail above the creek, it was fun but after half a mile the water was coming up and so were the ledges so we opted to get back on the trail, 15' embankment first try I was out. a little winching and both Heeps were out. now our wonder group was back in formation with me in the lead. progress consisted of me trying to find which rig was stuck on the log where, the storms had been ruff this year. we finally made it to the last hill had a bad offcamber wash loose and full of downed trees and brush, I made it by riding high on the wash and didnt look back till I crested the hill, but the patient Heep that had been doing well was slid sideways behind me, the bypass was blocked by a log I couldnt wrap my arms around we finally got it cut and winched out of the way, we finally got everyone through by this time we were making bypasses mandatory, 3 or 4 rigs wanted to know which route I took that is when the Heep locked up his motor, aparently where ever these people had been wheeling it required fool throttle or non at all. a 2.5 hour trail was at hour 7 by the time I rolled back into camp. had a raffle and fireworks lots of fun the kid ate it up. on sunday we broke camp and went out with the staff and played on the big boy trails orange and red had fun didnt break and got the kid back into it finally it had been a long summer of not wanting to ride. and he was finally calling the trails again, up there daddy, up there daddy so off we went ran the trenches, and had a lot of fun.
next up hot springs thanksgiving weekend.

WOW! that sounds like a lot of fun! actually... it sounds like you needed a little  Jug after all that!

So... is this like some sort of "off roading" school?

NEVER, NEVER underestimate the capabilities of a Samurai - I did and ended up buying one because of it  Thumbs Up

no school, although hopefully some of them learned some. everyone starts somewhere, just wish i would have known and we would have split the group and did a different trail or something. rocktoberfest is a great family event that has been going on for like 17 years or something like that. we have guided trail rides in the national forest following strictly to marked open trails so as not to get the forest service any further after us. there are competitions and stuff as well, but I am more of a trail guy. we lead trails at that event and at zukimelt every year and as it turned out zukikrawl we had several following us even though we had never been there.
I just enjoy wheeling with a group.
