i just finished pulling my tranny back to change out the clutch, kinda a pain on jack stands.

i noticed that the end of the input shaft where it rides the pilot bearing seams to be quite worn.

could anyone point me in the right direction for parts, i almost hate to pull the tranny all the way out and not try to fix the leaks also.  so i don't know if there is a rebuild kit or gasket kit or any suggested kit that is available.

as always i appreciate any info anyone can give me.

91 Kick 4 door 4x4 all stock.

Thanx

I've got a trans with the same problem. I just want it as a spare but I wonder if something like a speedi-sleeve used on crankshafts is available. Mine only moves about 1/8" back and forth so the front bearing may be OK (I hope). I think if the shaft is real loose the front bearing is toast but I'd like to fix mine if I can. I believe Chicagao rawhide makes the speedi sleeves but have no link or phone. If you could find one that is the right diameter for the pilot bushing, couldnt you turn the rear shaft and file the end until it slips over the input and go from there?Huh? I'm going to try this later but now I'm welding in patch panels so it'll have to wait-------------------------Hank

if i can't find a source for new, i was thinking maybe have a machine shop turn it and maybe a brass bushing for the pilot bearing end.  have no idea if my bearing is any good, i have not taken the input shaft off the tranny yet.

When an input shaft tip is worn, it is just worn in one area of the machined end.  Usually, the area slightly in front and behind where the pilot bearing rides is usually ok.  I have used a wider pilot bearing to get the non-worn areas of the input shaft, so the input shaft is supported correctly.
If you do a search on zuwharrie.com in the IFS section, I have a thread in there with pics and part numbers for the wider pilot bearing.
