Has anyone tried to fab a light bar to fit above and connect to the windshield frame and still have use of the soft top?  I was going to give it a shot.  Tell me if I'm on crack but I was thinking along the lines of aluminum flat stock cut to an "L" shape (2) to go against the windshield frame and then attaching pipe and or tube to it.  Mounting light bar to the windshield frame would be via 4 (2 per side) existing screws for a hinged windshield bump stops along top horizontal and I may add more mounting locations along vertical of windshield frame.  I'm open to ideas and suggestion.
Thanks
Rob

Thanks.  Went by there.  Saw some picts of it.  His lights are on top.  Don't like that idea of spending good $$$ to have them ripped off by branches.  I was looking to hang the lights on the bottom.  I guess I have to register to another site just to ask some question.

Made a template and passed it off to a buddy that does fab work.  I'll post picts as progress happens.

use the two mouting points, hinge and bumpstop and just make sure that you don't mount 75lbs of lights on it. I'm going to do the same thing and mount it under for the same reason. I  don't want to worry about them ripping off. just make it high enough to fit the lights under. If you want to use aluminum round just buy a conduit bender and get the 3/4 round stock and make a nice bar. The aluminum bends real nice with no kinks. Welding aluminum is alot harder.

How about mounting them in a roof basket? might be stronger than just a light bar. You know, for those times when you really, really, thought you could sneak under that branch. LOL

Roof basket?  I thought about that.  Dad just pulled one off his K5 Blazer.  I have some other work to do, but intend on using it at some point on down the road, but not for lights.

Zukimoo, What kinda of lights are you using?

I like the low-profile light bar that keeps out of the way of low branches.
These are not that small, but they're cheap:

That first link is a bit more than what I had in mind but have looked at the Vision X 4402 Spot - 4" 35 Watt HID Lights for the bar.  The second link is a internal mount type. Again not quite the direction I was going but the internal mount is a nice finish product.  I just don’t have the equipment to do nice cuts needed.
I'm going to try my hand at posting where I stand on this project.

Thanks for the links Fuzzy.

Thanks for the light suggestions but I’m looking for more down range illumination from the elevated light bar.  Those would fit nicely in the factory bumper where the parking/turn signals are/were located.

L Brackets (boomerangs) are done.  My Fab Buddy made a slug that fits inside the 1” Square Tube and connects to the L Bracket via a counter sunk Allen head bolt so I could adjust the angle of the up right.  I have two pieces of tube that will be stacked horizontally and an angle piece that will connect the upright to the L Brackets.  Now I’m at the point of finding the lights to hang on the bar so I can finalize how high the horizontal bar will be.

I finally decided to go with the PIAA 510 Series lights for my light bar.  I will be placing two set of lights up there.  The first is the SMR Xtreme White Driving; the second are the Intense White ATP. They will be here Wednesday.  The only problem I’m having now is finding someone to wield aluminum.   SOS Sign
